Engaged!

One of the gals on my Creative Team at Heritage Scrap wrote me this morning to tell me that the above layout was shown in a blog post by Tangie Baxter from one of my favorite stores, Scrapbook Graphics Studio.  Check out the blog post about vintage photos.  She has some great ones and some neat layouts made with her kits.  Thanks to Diane for the head up and Tangie Baxter for featuring my layout.

The layout is created with my Autumn In Paris contribution to the Heritage Scrap September designer's collaboration.  There is a photo below in the next post showing my portion.  And in the following posts you can see other layouts created with my kit.

Autumn In Paris

 

This month I took part in my first designer collaborative kit at Heritage Scrap.  You can find my portion here.  Make sure to lok at all of Autumn In Paris.  The ladies did a fabulous job.  Each portion is only $2.50 for the month of September!   

Henry Brown Wolcott

This is my great, great, great, Grandfather, Henry Brown Wolcott.  He was a Methodist Circuit Minister and later pastored a Methodist church in Blanchard, Michigan.  The layout was created using my Autumn In Paris kit at Heritage Scrap.

The photo in the background is labeled in the next post.  I blended it with my papers from Autumn In Paris.  The two in the smaller photo are my Grandpa, George "Alden" Hopkins and his little sister Vera Hopkins Rehbine. 

 

 

4 Generations of Hopkins-Wolcott Family

 

 

This layout shows a photo that was taken about 1910 of my Grandfather and his family.  For family, L to R in the back row are Jane Reed Evarts (her mother was the Aunt of Benjamin Lindley Wolcott also pictured), Alice Evarts Wolcott, Blanch Wolcott Hopkins (These are three generations of ladies right there), George Alfred Hopkins, Benjamin Lindley Wolcott and Paul Wolcott Hopkins.  In the front L to R are my Grandpa, George "Alden" Hopkins and Vera Hopkins Rehbine.  The picture was in the possession of family in Michigan.  George Hopkins sent photos to his family in Michigan on a regular basis.  So almost 100 years later the photo was seen by our side of the family for the first time!  This is one of the really rewarding aspects of Internet genealogy. My Design Debut

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I introduce today, my debut kit, Larimore, sold exclusively at Heritage Scrap!  Larimore is my paternal Grandma's maiden name.  As a little girl, I would sit on her lap and beg her to tell "one more story about the olden days"!   I loved her stories and this was the beginning of my interest in family history and genealogy.  Sadly she died of Alzheimer's so I was never able to get all the details that she knew, but I treasure those times.  It seemed fitting that I name my first kit after her. I hope you'll come back and visit my blog.  I want to be updating more often and sharing layouts.

Wednesday Gallery Standouts

I have been so busy with my work at Heritage Scrap and my family, that I have not been back here to update or post.  I am hoping to work out so I can post at least weekly here.  I wanted to let you know that every Wednesday (give or take!) I post a Wednesday Gallery Standouts post on the Heritage Scrap blog.  There are some amazing artists on our Creative Team and in the users who post at HS's gallery.  Go check them out!  

Prince Of My Heart - 11 Years Ago Today

 

Eleven years ago today my Hubby made me the happiest woman in the world, when he proposed to me.  We had been friends for over a year but had only met face to face, 3 days earlier.  This photo was taken on our first date alone, Saturday, July 11, 1998 at Semiahmoo Park in Blaine, Washington.  The photo, originally taken in color is my all time favorite!  It was taken through the eyes of love and I can see his sweet affection for me written all over his face.  At the time, I did not know how difficult it actually was to get a decent, let alone good photo of this man who hates having is picture taken.  As a matter of fact, he actually hates this photo!  He truly is the Prince of My Heart!  I created this layout with Jean Daugherty's Shining Knight kit from Heritage Scrap.

When I met Hubby, I knew instantaneously that he was "it".  Actually, I knew about 2 months before I met him face to face!  It was a total "God thing" and I can't really explain how I knew, I just did.  I had a peace and total calmness about it.  But then the weekend he came to meet me and my family, I was confused - there were all these romantic opportunities and still he never proposed.  I dreamed of having him drop to his knees on the beach and asking me to marry him.  Little did I know that "story book romance" was not his forte!  That's okay... he's good at the stuff that really counts in life!

Sunday night I put him back on the plane, sad to see him go and sad that he didn't propose.  Monday I had a hard time concentrating at work and even the grumpiest of patients couldn't wipe the smile off my face.  That evening we "talked" on line through AIM.  I discovered that he couldn't concentrate all day either and had been thinking about me!  The next thing I know he is typing, "Do you think spring break is a good time for a wedding?"  Teacher's plan their lives around school vacations.  "Wait!  You are planning a wedding?  You haven't even proposed!" I answer.  Then he also types, "Wait!  Get off the computer so I can call you on the phone (the days of dial up! lol).  I can't do this on the computer."  So my heart is pounding  and the wait seems forever!  Finally the phone rings.  He asks me to be his wife!  Yes, yes!  A thousand times yes!  It was pretty late, so we couldn't talk long, but afterward I was floating on air.  I had to tell someone so I woke up my Mom (I was living with them at the time) and told her.  It's hard to sleep when you've just gotten engaged to the most incredible man in the world!

And then the adventure began...

Weekend Scrapping

I haven't had time to start posting on this blog which really bums me out!  Hopefully next week I'll have layouts to share with you.  I'm leaving in an hour for a weekend with my friends Sonia and Pam, who I have scrapped with for ten years.  One whole weekend of good food, great company and creative spirit!
